Mission Impossible?

Mission Statement: Get bronzed.

I am a fair skinned girl. My friends like to call me Powder, Casper, Vanilla Milkshake... I could keep going but you get the point. Basically any name that implies my skin blinds them. Next week I will be going to Idaho for a wedding and I would like to have a little color on my ghostly limbs. However, I am a working girl these days and don't have time to lay out on at the beach every day like I did last summer. I am calling on you for some help.

The tanning bed just seems ridiculous, studies show people who fake-n-bake are 70% more likely to get skin cancer. No thanks. I don't want a side of cancer with my color! I have tried a few different self tanning gels, foams, oils, lotions and potions over the years but they always seem to turn me orange. Even the ones made for fair skin. I have thought about doing the spray tan but I am scurred I will come out looking like a pumpkin!

I would love to hear your suggestions for a summer glow DIY, keep in mind I only have four days time to get bronzed and most of that will be spent in an office.

D & G for Fall

I know it's drought season and most of you are basking in that delicious summer heat. I am assuming the last thing on your mind is fall fashion because you are sporting your maxi dress, sunnies, flippy flops and ultra tan skin. But for me it's a little different. Sure there has been a couple days where it has gotten up to the 90's and it was hot as hell. That I don't like. I am sort of a temperature snob and need a constant 77 degrees to be my best, most beautiful self (ok, ok, there is a fluctuation of a few degrees and I stay happy ;0)).

Today is another one of those sweatshirt wearin' mid July days and it feels like I should be cuddled up under a blanket sipping hot cocoa by the crackling fire. Or I should be slow cooking a roast and sipping on red wine just to warm up the crisp air. Those are things I enjoy in the fall/winter months.

Instead I am day dreaming. Get a load of D & G's Fall Fashion Line. I kid you not, I started drooling when I saw this add from Neiman Marcus in my inbox. Now, on a bankers salary I unfortunately won't be able to go all shopaholic style and indulge. Sad face. However, this is definitely part of my fall fashion inspiration board!

Cherry Crumb Cake & 2 D-LISH Giveaways!

I had no idea how much I loved cherry season until I moved to this area. Look at what I did today, I am so stoked on this because I am many things but a baker I am not... or maybe I am now...

Ingredients:

***Cake***

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
3/4 cup granulated sugar
2 large eggs
1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
1/2 teaspoon almond extract
3/4 cup sour cream
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking powder
1/4 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 cup coarsely chopped pitted fresh cherries, tossed with 2 tablespoons flour

***Topping***

6 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
3/4 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1/8 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup chopped pecans or walnuts
Preparation:
Heat oven to 350°. Grease and flour a 9-inch round cake pan.
With an electric mixer, cream 6 tablespoons of butter and 3/4 cup granulated sugar until light and fluffy. Slowly beat in the eggs, one at a time, beating well after each addition. Beat in the vanilla extract, almond extract, and sour cream until blended.

In another bowl, combine 1 1/2 cups flour, baking powder, soda, 1/2 teaspoon of salt. Slowly beat the flour mixture into the batter just until blended. Fold in cherries. Spoon into the prepared baking pan.

Combine 6 tablespoons of butter with 1/4 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, 3/4 cup flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, 1/8 teaspoon salt, and pecans. Mix well. With fingers, crumble the streusel mixture evenly over the cake batter.

Bake the cake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until a toothpick or cake tester inserted into the center of the cake comes out clean.

Serves 8 to 10. Enjoy!

I have been horrible with the bloggin' these days, my apologies to you all. Here is my vow to be better, I am not going to commit to a certain amount of blogging per week because that would take the joy out of being inspired and just doing it! If I feel like I HAVE to do something my procrastinator inside me kicks in and I don't wanna.

This is a random post with a few of the things that have me intrigued. Chanel guitar, uh hello my pretty. This makes me want to be all Joan Jett and rock out with my c*ck out!!! I am going to start getting back into playing guitar because of this little gem! Ooooh la

4th of July is coming fast and furious, how excited are you?!?!? My bestie is coming from Idaho to The Hood, this will be fun, fun, fun! Our plans will include but not be limited too... drinking, bbq'n, parade watchin', fireworks at the Marina, live music and of course laughing 'til we cry! What are your plans?

And last but not def. not least. NEW JEANS! Last weekend I splurged on some Citizen of Humanity Kelly Stretch jeans, they are perfect. I am not at all hestitant to say they make me look bootylicious! However, I could not find a picture of them to share but as I was searching I found these COH Dita Petite in Dark Paris and now I am lusting. Found at Pink Mascara. Am loving the flats she is wearing too.

This fanny pack would be a wise investment for me. Ready for some story time? Well ready or not here it comes. A couple years ago while I was in my prime drinking days, not knowing my limit or not caring... I do not recall, I went out with my roommate at the time and her ex boy. We started pre funking at her exes apartment while playing darts. Our intentions were to go for dinner and drinks but somehow dinner became drinks and we didn't eat. After a few or possibly more like five beers we headed to Three Thirty Three. Ok, I have to admit I barely remember how we got to the bar. We get to 333 and with the influence of my drunk roomie, decide the best drink of the night would be dirty martinis. This would have been fine if I had eaten that dinner previously mentioned.

We were all glam and fab while drinking, flirty and talking with friends. And then this girl that supposedly is a stylist for celebs (right, she was dressed like she was an extra in Dynasty.) This ultra annoying chick decided to pull the bobby pins out of my hair and give me the "Donna Martin do", she claimed it was the in do for all celebs. Umm I may be an Idaho girl but I keep up on the hottest trends and this was so 1996! I am getting a little off track, you are probably wondering what the chick trying to make me over has to do with me needing a fanny pack. I am getting to it, promise...

So she does the do, I turn to my roomie and make her fix it, chick tried to put it back to the Donna Martin. And that is when it starts to get even more fuzzy. I know I slammed down a 2nd dirty martini while all this was happening. And then stumbled to the bathroom. Then it all goes black.

Apparently I threw up in the lovely bathroom. Roomie came and found me, held my hair, washed me up and took me outside for some fresh air. Roomies ex shoved us in a cab back to Irvine. I awoke the next morning without my life (IE, purse which consisted of cellphone, wallet, id, even my social security card was in there!!!). I was a shit show and that fanny pack could have been a great wing man on more than one occasion.

Please tell me I am not the only one.

I feel like in my life I have cared so much about trying to please everyone around me it took a while to find my own voice. I used to be really shy and timid, at least until I was comfortable around someone. I didn't like to be put on the spot or called out in front of a group of people. The attention embarrassed me. Now I am like, "hey guess what, hey listen to me, HEY! I am talking!" Ha ha. OK, maybe not that bad but I am more assertive and likely to speak my mind.

In the past couple of years I have gotten to know myself better. I can't say that I have completely found myself but I am on my way. I used to hate being alone, now I quite enjoy my own company. Does this mean I am old? I don't feel old. Here is what I think it means, I am at peace. It's settled, I am not old I am just peaceful. Right?

I am off to the Saturday market for some fresh flowers and live music. Have a relaxing and wonderful day!

Lately my mind has been occupied by thoughts and memories of a person who is anything but deserving. I get caught up with questions like... why did it happen? What was I thinking? Why do I care? I then get angry for letting myself wander back to those days of heartache and confusion. It's safe to say I need therapy. I don't blame anyone but myself for what happened and hopefully one day I will be able to here his name and not feel as though the wind has just been knocked out of me. Today I wish that I could get my memory erased as seen on Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind or Men In Black (laughed out loud for even thinking of that movie).

In quoting Elizabeth Marie, "Mondays with PMS suck." Agreed, and so do Tuesdays! Here's to hoping it's a PMSless Wednesday.

It is that time of year, when nothing is better than the refreshingly sweet, watery taste of watermelon . I don't care for any other type of melon, which is a good thing, being I am allergic to all melon including the desirable watermelon. Lucky Brand - Wooden Flower Watch

I just fell in love with this watch! Telling time on it would be a challenge for me, yeah I am not the quickest time teller out there... I may even have to use the ole "oh I just wear this for looks, my battery doesn't work.", excuse. Not like I've ever used that before or anything. Ya, umm, ok whatevs. Moving on.

Today was my first day on the new jobby job! I have to say it's going quite well, all the people I work with are wonderful. Easy going, very helpful and have that way of making you feel comfortable while not knowing what the heck you are doing! I am looking forward to spending my time with them while making the moola so I can purchase all these chic goods I keep stumbling across!

This work thing is really cutting into my blogging time, so many blogs to read so little time! I guess that is what those weekends are for.

I have some not so good news and some really great news to share. In using the "band aid" removal method (quick and fast) I will get the sadness out of the way. I lost a friend over the weekend, in mourning my loss I found that this quote gives me much comfort.

On to the fabulous news I just received while writing this blog... I am going to be an Auntie x 3! I have two rowdy nephews that rock my world and now my brother and his wifey are expecting again! My fingers are crossed for a niece that I can shower with pink and lace and glitter and barbies and cupcakes and all that frilly girl stuff my nephews laugh at me for loving! Being Aunt KeeKee is one of the best things in my life, I am so thankful for my wonderful family!

The Lip Scrub w/ a side of steroids...really?

Have you ever made an impulse purchase? Sure you have, everyone does it. I think it's normal, but what do I know about normal? Ha! Last time I was at Planet Beauty, (which let me tell you has been ions being that I haven't lived in California since last October and Oregon isn't blessed with the amazingness!) I was in line waiting to pay for my necessities feeling a little bummed even though new shampoo does excite me, I wanted something more, something random and new to try, so I threw The Lip Scrub by Sarah Happ up on the counter. After the excitement of my new goodies wore off I probably used the lip scrub once or twice and then in my move I completely forgot about it. Until the other day when disgusting, annoying ants decided to invade my bathroom. I super freaked on the ants, dug everything out of my cupboards and in the midst of it all found the lip scrub. It is sugary goodness and leaves my lips feeling so soft and moisturized. I am now obsessed with using it everyday as part of my getting ready routine. My impulse turned into an obsession, does that justify it? HECK YES!

It's really awkward when you have to call a prospective employer and explain to them that you may not pass your drug test because you have been taking steroids! Don't worry I am not all 'roided out and trying to get juiced up, beefed up or anything related. I had been sick for weeks, really sick. Coughing this horrible bark, seriously, even Quinn (my parents golden retriever) would look at me like "What the hell is that noise?" I went to the doctor after my dad convinced me I was on my death bed and even the doctor cringed at the noise coming from my esophagus. He gave my lungs a listen and told me they were clear, then asked me if I was sure I didn't swallow a hot wheel or anything. Um, no hot wheel consumption for this girl! His conclusion was that I had a virus in my trachea, oh he had some big long doctor word for it that I do not recall at the moment. Doc wrote me a prescription for steroids as I asked him really important questions like "This isn't going to make me grow a beard is it?", he assured me with "Well at least not in this decade."

Dear Fred,

It's that day of the week again, you know the one where every slick rick and beach bunny in SoCal hoards in to consume numerous amounts of tacos and margaritas.

I miss you for your Baja Fish Tacos, black beans and rice, and The Cadillac. Truly, a fiesta on my pallet.

-Missing the Cali life! But I am gonna suck it up and make tacos at home while the wind blows and rain pours down. I found a new recipe, these lil jems are called Not So Fat Tacos. If you are interested in exploring new, healthier options for your diet maybe you should take a gander at this...

1 teaspoon olive oil
1 red bell pepper, cut into 1/2 - inch chunks
1 green bell pepper, cut into 1/2 - inch chunks
4 scallions, white and green parts separated and thinly sliced
3 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
1/4 cup bulgar
8 ounces ground sirloin
1/2 teaspoon chili powder
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1 15 ounce can low sodium crushed tomatoes
1/4 teaspoon salt
8 6 inch corn tortillas
4 ounces crumbled feta
2 cups shredded romaine

In a large nonstick skillet, heat oil on medium heat. Add peppers, scallion whites, and garlic and cook, stirring frequently, for about 7 minutes or until peppers are crisp-tender. Stir in bulgar. Add sirloin, chili powder, and cumin and cook, stirring until beef is no longer pink, about 3 minutes.
Mix in tomatoes and salt and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to a simmer, cover, and cook for about 10 minutes or until bulgar is tender.
Using tongs, hold each tortilla over the burner for about 15 seconds or until lightly toasted. Spoon 1/2 cup filling down the center of each tortilla. Top with feta, romaine and scallion greens.

Perhaps I should have waited until after I try this recipe but I am too excited! I am sure they will be dericiousness. Now I just need to find a perfect margarita and I am set! Off to watch The Hills from last night.

Numero uno, I had a job interview today that went very well! I don't want to jinx myself but I left that place feeling as though I fit like a puzzle piece. That is a great feeling, one I haven't had for quite some time. I haven't been part of the work force world since November '07, feels like a life time ago! I thought about trying out sugardaddie.com but decided being an independent woman would probably be the best direction for my life! Ha, but that doesn't mean I am shutting down the idea, it's not probable but anything is possible, jk... not really but ya.

For all y'all that don't know... my title of this blog entry is New Kid On The Block. I am not a fan of the band nor was I when they were hip back in the 90's. Everyone else I knew would have screamed a very high pitch noise, you would think only dogs could hear, at the mention of NKOTB. But not me! Ok. Sure. Maybe in the 2nd grade, I did think The Right Stuff was a rather catchy tune but I wasn't about to do a talent show routine to it (unlike a couple of my besties... one day that video will need to be on youtube). Wow, I am giving those kids way too much airtime! I only chose the title because this is my first blog ever, yessss popping my blog cherry as I type.

Thank you to Unbeweavable, she is the amazingness that inspired me to start blogging!

Please be patient with me while I learn my way around this bloggy blog world and stay tuned for some daily rants, loves and laughs.... it's my life, my style. Right?
